Don’t forget Leah Sharibu – Rev. Para-Mallam urges FG 7 years after abduction

On Wednesday, February 19, Rev. Gideon Para-Mallam, a well-known preacher and peace advocate, renewed his call for the Nigerian government to take urgent action to secure the release of Leah Sharibu, who has been held captive by Boko Haram for seven years.

Leah Sharibu remains the only student out of the 110 Dapchi schoolgirls who were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists on February 19, 2018, who is still in captivity.

During a ceremony marking the seventh anniversary of her abduction in Jalingo, Taraba State, Rev. Para-Mallam urged the international community to continue to demand her release. He emphasized the ongoing pain Leah’s parents feel as they still hope to reunite with their daughter.

Rev. Para-Mallam said, “Leah’s parents are still distraught and long to see their daughter again. We have consistently advocated for her release and that of others in captivity, yet she remains held hostage.” He also pointed out the lack of action from the government since the new administration took office, saying, “There has been total silence on Leah’s case.”

He revealed that Leah has been in captivity for 2,507 days and appealed directly to President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Sen. Remi Tinubu to prioritize her freedom. He added, “Leah will turn 22 years old on May 14, 2025.”

Rev. Para-Mallam also made an emotional plea to Boko Haram, saying, “May God touch your hearts and restore your sense of compassion,” and called on the international community to use every diplomatic channel available to help secure Leah’s release.

He concluded by commending the Nigerian Armed Forces for their ongoing efforts in the fight against terrorism, urging them to remain resilient in their mission.
