EFCC explains why money laundering charge against Bobrisky was dropped

On Monday, September 30, Bilikisu Buhari from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) informed the House of Representatives Committee investigating Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, that the money laundering charges were removed due to Bobrisky’s statement regarding naira abuse in court.

She emphasized that the EFCC has the authority to adjust charges as needed.

“There was no form of financial inducement to any member of the commission. All we did was in line with the core values of the commission,” she stated.

The Committee Chairman, Ginger Onwusibe, announced that during the next meeting, the person who recorded the audio related to the case should appear before the committee, and then the meeting was adjourned indefinitely.

VeryDarkMan presents his evidence

On the same day, a person named Verydarkman appeared before the committee to share information regarding allegations of corruption against the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Services. Also present were Bobrisky’s lawyer, Averosoghene Omuvwie, representatives from the EFCC, and suspended officers of the Correctional Services.

Verydarkman claimed that he obtained audio recordings from someone who borrowed 4 million naira from Bobrisky. He mentioned having more audio evidence to present when appropriate.

“Bobrisky claimed he had a Godfather. I do not know if that Godfather is here, so I will present my evidence one at a time, as I have more recordings,” he said.

Bobrisky’s lawyer explains absence due to illness

During the investigation, Bobrisky’s lawyer, Averosoghene Omuvwie, stated that Bobrisky could not attend the committee meeting due to illness. The committee questioned the lack of documentation from Bobrisky’s doctor regarding his health, to which the lawyer replied he did not have such evidence.

Deputy Controller testifies about Bobrisky’s detention

Micheal Beson Anukwa, Deputy Controller in charge of the Maximum Correctional Center in Kirikiri, Lagos, testified that Bobrisky was never held outside the correctional facility.

“Bobrisky was admitted on April 13 with a valid warrant and a transfer order from the Ikoyi Correctional facility,” he explained. The warrant was issued the same day as Bobrisky’s conviction.

He noted that Bobrisky spent ten days in a medium correctional center before being moved to maximum security after refusing to eat the prison food. He applied for self-feeding, which was approved, allowing two people to bring him food. Anukwa also mentioned that Bobrisky, while identifying as male, had physical features that required him to be placed in a separate cell. During his stay, he had a total of 39 visitors.
