Edo 2024: Ighodalo named Esan consensus candidate at PDP rally

On Thursday, August 29, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) launched its gubernatorial campaign at the Ubiaja Township Stadium in Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The event, led by Governor Godwin Obaseki, resembled a carnival with enthusiastic party members and supporters showing strong confidence in the upcoming election.

During the rally, Governor Obaseki endorsed Ighodalo as his preferred successor. He praised Ighodalo’s dedication, stating, “I’ve known Ighodalo for 40 years from our university days. He is running not for fame or money, but out of genuine love for the people of Edo State. He has all of those already.” Obaseki assured that Ighodalo, along with Osarodion Ogie, would increase the state’s budget from N450 billion to N1 trillion, ensuring more funds for development projects.

Obaseki urged attendees to support Ighodalo and vote for the PDP on election day.

Ighodalo expressed gratitude for the support and committed to improving security and implementing his manifesto, ‘The Pathway to Prosperity for All.’

Chief Tom Ikimi addressed the crowd, highlighting that the campaign kickoff in Esan land was a significant achievement for the Esan Agenda. He called on royal fathers across the state to back Ighodalo as the “Esan consensus candidate for the governorship election.”

First Lady Betsy Obaseki added that the current moment in Edo State was “Esan O’clock.” She criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for nominating a candidate she deemed an “insult to Edo people,” asserting that the people of Edo would not accept such a choice.
