DJ Neptune warns AI will soon retire music producers

Popular Nigerian disc jockey and record producer, Imohiosen Patrick, better known as DJ Neptune, has raised an alarm over the future of the music industry. He predicts that the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence, AI, will soon push many human music producers out of business.

This warning follows recent observations by media personality N6, who claimed that AI is quietly taking over production and mastering. DJ Neptune shared a personal experience where he was completely deceived by a song created entirely by technology.

Technology shakes the Afrobeats ecosystem

DJ Neptune revealed that a friend recently sent him a record to review and provide professional feedback. The quality of the song was so impressive that he immediately advised his colleague to sign the “artiste” behind the track.

However, he was shocked to discover that the vocals and production were the handiwork of AI rather than a human being. “E shook me o,” the DJ stated, highlighting how difficult it has become to distinguish between digital and human creativity.

Recording Academy adapts to the digital shift

The rise of AI in music is no longer a distant threat, as both upcoming and professional musicians now use AI tools to enhance beats and vocals. Sound engineers are also incorporating these tools to streamline the mastering process and achieve professional results.

In response to this trend, the Recording Academy has updated its rules to allow music with AI features to be eligible for the Grammys. As long as a song contains sufficient human contribution, the academy will recognize it, despite the ongoing debate over authenticity and authorship.
