Tinubu’s aide Bwala slams ADC members over election readiness

Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has described members of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, as politically unprepared. Speaking on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Bwala criticized the party’s leadership, alleging that internal division and individual ambitions are hindering their progress.

The presidential aide dismissed claims that the current administration is plotting to transform Nigeria into a one-party state. He argued that the opposition is merely making excuses for their lack of a coherent strategy ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Allegations of foreign interference in local politics

In a post shared on his official X handle, Bwala accused the ADC of attempting to invite foreign intervention into Nigeria’s internal affairs. He claimed the party is using the “one-party state” narrative to attract international attention and cover up its own organizational flaws.

Bwala mocked the opposition for acting as if foreign embassies in Nigeria are unaware of their “lack of preparedness.” He suggested that the party’s primary challenge is a surplus of members who all want to be the presidential candidate simultaneously.

Opposition leaders rally against one-party narrative

The remarks from the presidency follow recent statements by Peter Obi, a chieftain of the ADC, who warned that the nation is sliding toward a single-party system. Obi has consistently urged Nigerians to resist any moves that could destroy the country’s democratic diversity.

During a massive protest at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, former Minister Rotimi Amaechi echoed these concerns. Amaechi stated that the ruling APC would face defeat in 2027, despite what he described as attempts to weaken the nation’s democratic institutions.

Internal crisis and the David Mark faction

The controversy deepens as the ADC remains embroiled in a leadership tussle that has led to the emergence of multiple factions. INEC recently declined to recognize the faction led by former Senate President David Mark, citing ongoing legal disputes and a Court of Appeal order.

Bwala described the group as an “association of party-grabbing elements,” fueling the tension between the presidency and the opposition coalition. As the 2027 elections approach, the war of words between the ruling party and the ADC coalition continues to intensify.
