CTC accuses faction of teaming up with APC to party, PDP crisis deepens
The Katsina State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee has given clarity on a deepening crisis threatening to overwhelm the party’s efforts to consolidate ahead of crucial political engagements in the state.
The spokesperson for the caretaker committee, Lawal Audi Yar’adua, addressed the media to clarify recent controversies raised by a faction of the party.
He refuted what he termed “misleading information” from a faction led by Salisu Uli, a former chairman of the party.
According to reports, earlier on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, Salisu Uli, at a press briefing held at the Katsina PDP state headquarters, raised concerns that five days before the end of the scheduled form sales for the purported congress elections, members of the caretaker committee responsible for sales of forms to interested members had not yet made them available.
Audi, refuting the claim by Salisu Uli’s faction, said the sales of forms were transparently communicated and completed over two months ago, during which Uli’s faction chose not to participate.
According to Audi, Uli’s group was busy contesting the Committee’s legitimacy at the time, declining to engage in the party’s structured processes, including the endorsement procedures at ward and local government levels.
Audi raised concerns about potential external influence, stressing that Uli’s actions could be politically motivated by the Katsina APC.
He accused them of disregarding the national PDP’s directives concerning the congress.
He further alleged that Uli and his supporters, including notable figures like Salisu Majigiri, a House of Representatives member, are aligned with forces within the APC aiming to further weaken the Katsina PDP, following former Governor Ibrahim Shema’s defection to the APC.
Audi urged party unity against “attempts to destabilise the PDP.” He praised Senator Lado Danmarke’s leadership and dedication to the people, contrasting him with those who sow discord.
“Senator Lado Danmarke embodies the true spirit of service and compassion that defines our party. His unwavering commitment to the people of Katsina State sets him apart from those whose only agenda is to sow discord and division,” Dan Audi declared.
Dan Audi expressed confidence in the PDP’s resilience, urging party members to remain unwavering in their support for the party despite internal challenges.
