Cross River LG polls: CP Grimah assures peaceful elections this weekend
Cross River State is set to hold local government council and ward elections on Saturday, November 2, 2024. The state Commissioner of Police, Gryogon Augustine Grimah, has assured residents that the elections will be conducted peacefully.
After a state security meeting led by Governor Senator Prince Edet Otu, Grimah addressed journalists, emphasizing that the environment will be conducive for citizens to exercise their voting rights. He noted that all relevant security agencies in the state have mobilized their resources to ensure safety and maintain law and order during the elections.
Grimah encouraged voters to take advantage of the peaceful atmosphere and come out to cast their ballots. He also mentioned that he had recently been posted to Kaduna State but was reinstated after a week.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, added that the Command has engaged with various stakeholders to facilitate a smooth electoral process. She highlighted the collaboration with sister agencies and other security personnel to combat issues such as vote buying and violence. Ugbo also urged the public to report any misconduct by officers through the designated channels provided by the police.
Meanwhile, the ruling party in the state, the APC, launched its campaign on Monday in the central district of Ikom LGA.
