Court halts CBN from sending funds to Rivers State
On Wednesday, October 30, the Federal High Court in Abuja made a significant decision. The court ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to stop sending monthly financial allocations to the Rivers State government.
The judge, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, explained that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s handling of these funds since January was not following the law properly. She said presenting the 2024 budget to a small group in the Rivers House of Assembly was against the Constitution.
The judge pointed out that Fubara’s actions violated the 1999 Constitution, which he promised to uphold. As a result, she ordered the CBN, the Accountant General of the Federation, Zenith Bank, and Access Bank to prevent Fubara from accessing any money from the Consolidated Revenue and Federation Account.
More details will be shared later.
