Court grants Angela Okorie N5m bail over alleged cyberbullying of Mercy Johnson

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday granted Nollywood actress Angela Okorie bail in the sum of N5 million over allegations of cyberbullying her colleague, Mercy Johnson-Okojie.

Justice Emeka Nwite admitted Okorie to bail with one surety in like sum, ruling that the prosecution failed to place concrete evidence before the court to show that the defendant would abscond if granted bail. The judge said bail is discretionary and must be exercised judicially and judiciously, adding that the interest of justice favoured the defendant.

The court ordered that the surety must be a level 13 civil servant, who is required to depose to an affidavit of means and present an appointment letter as well as evidence of last promotion. Both Okorie and her surety are also to submit two passport photographs to the court registrar, while the surety’s residence must be verified.

Justice Nwite adjourned the matter until March 23 for trial and directed that Okorie be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending the perfection of her bail conditions.
