Can Liverpool turn over a 3-0 deficit at Atalanta?
Jurgen Klopp would have been working overtime at the drawing board to come up with the perfect plan to play against Serie A side Atalanta in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League quarterfinal tie.
Liverpool lost 3-0 at Anfield last week to the horror of the Anfield faithful, and now needs to come up with a plan to cover a 3-goal deficit while preventing Atalanta from scoring more and making life even more difficult.
Recall that Liverpool has been here before, losing 3-0 to Barcelona in the first leg of the quarterfinal of the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League. Klopp’s men came back to win 4-3 though, with Georgino Wijnaldium and Divork Origi scoring a brace each in the second leg at Anfield.
The major difference is that the Merseyside club depended on the support of its fans in the second leg to make the comeback back in 2019. In this case, the home leg has already been played, and it was an embarrassing outing indeed.
It would be unwise to write Liverpool off, but it is incredibly difficult to see them getting into the Europa League semifinal from this position.
