Bruno Fernandes breaks chance creation season record, bags brace against Sheffield United
The Red Devils found themselves under more pressure than they were expecting as they welcomed bottom-placed Sheffield United to Old Trafford on Wednesday, April 24.
Erik ten Hag’s men went 1-0 down to the Blades, then 2-1 down. It took heroics from the captain Bruno Fernandes to come up with a one-of-a-kind performance to win the game.
Fernandes broke the record for most chances created in a Premier League game this season (9). A record that was set just the previous day by Martin Odegaard (8) against Chelsea.
Man United went behind in the 35th minute through a Jayden Bogle goal for Sheffield United. Harry Maguire equalized in the 42nd minute with a header, but Sheffield regained the lead in the 50th minute when Brereton Diaz scored.
Fernandes equalized the game in the 61st minute with a penalty goal, then gave Man United the lead for the first time in the game with a wonder strike from outside the box, on his weaker foot, in the 81st minute.
The captain came up with another magical moment in the 85th minute, placing the ball in Rasms Hojlund’s path for him to score his first goal in five games.
This win sends Man United back to 6th, as Newcastle United lost on the same day to Crystal Palace.
Sheffield, after the game, has now conceded 92 league goals, the most any team has ever conceded in a Premier League 38-game season.
