The Benue Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended former Governor Samuel Ortom, along with three other party members, citing alleged anti-party activities.
The decision to suspend Ortom was made during a meeting of the PDP State Working Committee (SWC) held in Makurdi. Along with Ortom, the suspended members include the state Deputy Chairman, Isaac Mffor, and the state Publicity Secretary, Bemgba Iortyom.
Cornelius Hwande, the PDP’s Media Consultant, announced the suspensions on Monday. Hwande explained that Ortom was penalized due to his support for the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 elections and his public statement urging the Benue PDP to support the APC in the 2027 Presidential election.
Additionally, Azua Ashongo, the party’s Vice Chairman for Zone A, was suspended for severe insubordination and indiscipline.
Hwande also indicated that Mffor and Iortyom faced suspension due to their involvement in the alleged theft of Congress materials intended for the recent ward congresses held in Buruku and Ushongo local government areas.
