Ballon d’Or: See the player Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have backed for the award

Former England internationals Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have both endorsed Rodri as the deserving winner of the 2024 Ballon d’Or.

The winner of this year’s Ballon d’Or will be announced in October. Manchester City stars Rodri and Erling Haaland, along with Real Madrid players Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, and Dani Carvajal, are anticipated to be among the top contenders.

Despite the strong competition, Shearer and Lineker have expressed their belief that Rodri should be honored with the prestigious award for his exceptional performances over the past season.

In a recent discussion with former Manchester City defender Micah Richards on the Rest is Football Podcast, Shearer unequivocally supported Rodri, stating: “It can only be him.”

Lineker also voiced his support, saying: “I think Rodri deserves it [Ballon d’Or]. They did not win the Champions League at City, but they did win the league and then the Euros with Spain when he was very much their leader.”
