Aviation unions issue 14-day ultimatum to NCAT over conditions of service

Four aviation sector unions have issued a 14-day ultimatum to the management of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, Kaduna State, demanding the immediate review of staff conditions of service.
The unions warned that failure by the management to conclude the review within the stipulated period would leave them with no option but to direct their members to withdraw their services.
The ultimatum was contained in a joint statement signed by the General Secretary of the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), Olayinka Abioye; the General Secretary of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Frances Akinjole; the Secretary General of the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), AbdulRasaq Saidu; and the General Secretary of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Waheed Sikiru.
According to the unions, management has shown continued indecision and lack of seriousness on issues affecting staff welfare and industrial harmony within the institution, despite repeated engagements and the unions’ commitment to the growth of the college.
They accused the management of paying “lip service” to the review of conditions of service, noting that NCAT remains the only agency in the aviation sector yet to conclude such a review.
The unions said the prolonged delay has left them with no choice but to issue the ultimatum, stressing that they would not hesitate to commence industrial action if their demands are not met within 14 days.
