ASUU warns members not to attend meetings with UNIZIK’s new VC Odoh

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has told its members not to attend any meetings with the university’s new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bernard Odoh.

In a statement shared by ASUU’s Chairman at UNIZIK, Prof. Kingsley Ubaoji, he explained that attending Odoh’s meetings would support his claim to the position, which the union believes is not legitimate. According to Ubaoji, Odoh’s appointment as Vice Chancellor has been blocked by a court order and declared invalid by the Federal Ministry of Education.

“We expect Prof. Odoh to respect the legitimate authorities and avoid causing any confusion in the university,” Ubaoji said. “Members who attend his meetings will face consequences.”

Ubaoji reminded ASUU members that Odoh’s appointment is still being challenged in court. “His appointment has been declared null and void by the Federal Ministry of Education,” he said. “He has no authority over the position he claims. We urge all ASUU members to avoid any meetings with him.”

The union called on its members to remain aware of any invitations or updates related to Odoh’s meetings and to disregard them if they come up. ASUU also encouraged everyone to continue supporting the university’s values of academic integrity and excellence.
