APC says no favorite picked for April 5 Anambra Guber showdown

On Tuesday, March 11, the big bosses of the All Progressives Congress (APC), called the National Working Committee (NWC), said they haven’t chosen a favorite among the seven people who want to be the party’s pick for the Anambra State governor election. The primary to pick the winner is coming up on Saturday, April 5.

The APC’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, shared this news during a special meeting in Abuja with important Anambra folks.

He explained, “We, members of the National Working Committee, are just catalysts. Catalysts are not part of the chemical reaction, but we aid the process, creating an enabling environment so that the election can take proper shape. We are not in conflict with any of you. Our only objective is to have one of you emerge as our candidate.”

Ganduje told everyone running to cheer for whoever wins the primary. He said no one should say mean things about the others and asked them to work together. He added, “It is not easy to win an election against an incumbent government. It requires strategic
political calculation, and cooperation is key.

“So, please, we urge and implore you—no litigation, no anti-party activities, no sitting on the fence, and no lukewarm attitude. What we require is your active participation.

“All of you will benefit if we secure government in multiple states. You will be integrated into the national grid. As it stands, you are like rural electrification—a weak link.

“So, help us to help you. You are all equal in our eyes. You are all our children—all the aspirants.

“Therefore, please, do not harbour any stereotypes against any member regarding this contest. We support all of you. Once one of you emerges as the candidate, we implore you to rally around him and become foot soldiers for the party so that we can win this election. We do not want a repeat of the Andy Uba episode.”

Before Ganduje spoke, the Anambra State APC leader, Chief Basil Ejidike, gave a big thumbs-up to the national team for setting up the meeting. He said it’s a super step in the right direction
