Amaechi reveals why he left PDP and APC parties

Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has opened up about the political struggles that forced him to change parties twice. Speaking on Friday, the former Rivers State governor claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience Jonathan, chased him out of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Amaechi explained that the former first family took over the political structure in Rivers State, leaving him with no choice but to exit in 2013. He noted that he faced similar internal injustices during his time with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Former Governor vows to fight political injustice
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain stated that he would never remain silent when faced with wrongdoing. He argued that his vocal nature often leads political opponents to plan his downfall or attempt to make him irrelevant.
Amaechi officially left the APC in 2025 after expressing lack of confidence in the current administration’s ability to govern the country. He maintained that his decisions have always been driven by a desire for fairness and effective leadership.
Amaechi speaks on Atiku and 2027 presidency
Regarding the 2027 elections, the former minister said he would support Atiku Abubakar if the former Vice President emerges as the ADC candidate. However, he urged the veteran politician to consider factors like age and capacity before making a final bid.
He also dismissed the popular concept of zoning, insisting that Nigeria needs competence rather than geographic rotation. Amaechi believes that the most qualified candidates should lead the nation, regardless of whether they come from the North or the South.
