Alan Shearer warns Arsenal of title challenge after red card woes
Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has expressed concerns that Arsenal will struggle to win the Premier League title this season if they continue to receive red cards.
Shearer’s comments came after Arsenal defender William Saliba was sent off in their 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth over the weekend. This follows a previous red card issued to midfielder Declan Rice during a match against Brighton a few weeks prior.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Shearer stated, “They are not going to win the title if they continue to get red cards because it’s just too tough in our league, in the Premier League, to be, no matter how good you are, to go in against 11 v 10 for an hour. It’s so difficult, and it’s already proved, isn’t it? They have got the three times it’s happened this season, and they have only taken two points from nine. So that tells you how hard it is going to be.”
Despite the setback against Bournemouth, Arsenal remains in third place in the league, trailing Manchester City and Liverpool. Shearer’s comments underline the importance of discipline as the Gunners aim to maintain their title challenge.
