Activist IG Wala joins ADC, calls for unity to unseat APC

Human rights advocate ditches APC for opposition coalition
Popular anti-corruption activist Comrade Ibrahim Garba Wala, better known as IG Wala, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) — turning his back on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
He announced his defection in a statement on Thursday, urging Nigerians from all walks of life to unite behind ADC and push for leadership change.
“It’s time to stop blaming and start building”
IG Wala, known for his outspoken activism, said his decision was fueled by growing frustration over the direction Nigeria has taken under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing worsening hardship and poor governance.
“For a long time, I blamed individuals for Nigeria’s problems. But that mindset has held us back,” he wrote. “Blaming is easy — but it stops us from doing the real work of rebuilding this country.”
Instead, he called for a shift in focus: from blame to collaboration. “We must build bridges of understanding, not walls of division,” he added.
ADC gaining momentum with big-name backers
Wala’s move comes shortly after former Senate President David Mark was named ADC’s interim national chairman — a development that has given the party fresh visibility.
Other notable figures recently linked with ADC include:
-
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar
-
Ex-governors of Kaduna and Rivers States
-
Dele Momodu, media personality and publisher of Ovation Magazine
-
Dino Melaye, former Kogi State senator
APC dismisses ADC despite growing attention
Despite the ADC’s growing list of high-profile supporters, the APC has brushed off its influence, especially after the party’s unimpressive performance in the August 16 bye-elections.
Still, with voices like IG Wala joining the call for change, ADC is positioning itself as a serious contender in 2027 — or at the very least, a rallying point for those disillusioned with the current political landscape.
