APGA denies reports of defection to ADC in Abia South

“Our structure is intact and ready for 2027,” says party
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State has dismissed rumours that its Abia South senatorial zone structure has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement released by Chukwuemeka Nwokoro, APGA’s State Publicity Secretary, the party described the reports as “false and misleading”, urging the public to disregard them.
Ex-member at the center of defection rumour
APGA also clarified that Charles Nwanyanwu, whose name featured in the defection claims, is no longer a member of the party.
According to APGA, Ward 6 records from Aba South confirm that Nwanyanwu resigned in 2020 and hasn’t been re-admitted since.
No leadership crisis, no merger talks
The party emphasized that it is united and crisis-free, with Ambassador Sunday Onukwubiri still serving as the State Chairman. APGA also noted that its structures across all 17 LGAs in Abia are active and working together.
The Abia South structure, under Chief Lucky Erondu, is said to be fully functional, with local government chairmen aligned in growing the party’s influence.
“We’re focused on 2027 — not distractions”
Highlighting its recent wins, APGA pointed to the election of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (Abia South) and Hon. Alex Ikwechegh (Aba North/South) as proof of its relevance in the state.
The statement ended with a call to supporters and the public: “Ignore the noise. APGA in Abia is strong, focused, and preparing to take over in 2027.”
