Mutfwang urges agriculture stakeholders to focus on food security and sovereignty

On Monday, November 18, 2024, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State called on key stakeholders in the agricultural sector to join forces and work towards achieving food security and food sovereignty in the state.

Speaking during an interactive session with agricultural stakeholders at the New Government House in Rayfield, Jos, Governor Mutfwang highlighted Plateau’s vast agricultural potential, noting that the state is blessed with abundant arable land, favorable weather, and a population of hardworking individuals ready to take the state to new heights with just a little support.

He said, “Not only should we ensure sustainable food security, but we also have the potential to achieve what I call food sovereignty. Plateau State can become a major food supplier, not only in Nigeria but globally.”

The governor stressed his administration’s commitment to tapping into the state’s agricultural resources by developing a robust value chain that will not only boost food production but also guarantee a steady supply of agricultural products. His vision is to position Plateau State as a leader in food production, ensuring that it can meet the needs of local communities while contributing to national and even global food supply.

Governor Mutfwang’s remarks reflect his administration’s focus on using Plateau’s natural advantages to drive agricultural development and create lasting economic prosperity for the state.
