Wike announces 20-day showcase of Tinubu’s education achievements in FCT

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to dedicate 20 days to showcase the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in the education sector within the FCT.
The initiative, he said, is part of efforts to demonstrate the government’s commitment to improving public infrastructure and educational development across the territory.
Wike unveils plan during project commissioning in Abuja
Wike made the announcement on Thursday during the commissioning of newly completed engineering infrastructure in Wuye District, Abuja. The minister explained that the decision to hold a 20-day exhibition was aimed at providing Nigerians, particularly those critical of the administration’s performance, with verifiable evidence of progress made under President Tinubu’s leadership.
According to him, the education sector has witnessed significant transformation through the rehabilitation and construction of new schools, improved learning facilities, and investments in teacher training. “We will take 20 days to show Nigerians, to show social media presidents, what we have done in the education sector,” Wike said. “So we are not going to rush. We are going to shock them with what we have done in the education sector.”
Focus on holistic development beyond infrastructure
The FCT Minister emphasized that while the Tinubu administration has been widely recognized for its massive road construction and urban renewal projects in the nation’s capital, equal attention has been given to education and human capital development.
“President Tinubu’s administration is not only concentrating on infrastructure in the FCT, in terms of roads and bridges, but also on improving the education sector,” he noted.
Wike highlighted that schools across the six area councils have benefited from ongoing intervention programs designed to enhance classroom environments, provide modern teaching materials, and ensure greater access to quality education for children in both urban and rural areas.
Wike defends Tinubu’s administration against critics
Addressing persistent criticism of the administration’s policies on social media, Wike said the 20-day showcase would provide Nigerians with firsthand information about the actual work being done in the Federal Capital Territory.
He argued that many online commentators underestimate the scale of projects completed under President Tinubu’s leadership, especially in education. “It is easy for people on social media to talk without facts, but we will show them what we have done,” he stated. “The evidence will speak for itself.”
The minister added that the event would include the commissioning of newly built and renovated educational facilities, including primary and secondary schools, as well as vocational and technical training centers across the FCT.
Transition from infrastructure projects to education
Wike also revealed that after the 20 days of continuous flag-offs and project commissioning, his ministry would take a brief break before shifting full attention to the education sector.
“I have told the Chief of Staff that we are going to end our flag-off and commissioning, at least for now,” he said. “Twenty days is not two days, so we will take a rest and come back to concentrate on education.”
The minister explained that the focus on education aligns with President Tinubu’s broader policy direction, which prioritizes the development of youth and the provision of opportunities for future generations. According to Wike, the FCT Administration has identified education as a critical driver of sustainable growth and social stability.
FCT education sector set for transformation
Over the past year, the FCT Administration has embarked on several education-focused initiatives aimed at improving access, quality, and inclusiveness. These include the renovation of dilapidated classrooms, provision of digital learning tools, recruitment of qualified teachers, and the introduction of scholarship programs for indigent students.
The forthcoming 20-day event will serve as a platform to highlight these projects, giving stakeholders and residents an opportunity to see the extent of development under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.
Renewed Hope Agenda in action
Wike’s announcement reflects the government’s broader strategy of transparency and accountability through the physical showcasing of completed projects. It also underscores the administration’s commitment to translating campaign promises into measurable outcomes.
As the FCT continues to expand and urbanize, education remains one of the top priorities for the government. By emphasizing both physical infrastructure and educational growth, Wike noted that the Tinubu administration aims to build a balanced and progressive capital city that meets the needs of all residents.
