Why Klint Da Drunk switched from music to comedy

Comedian reveals 2Face’s campus performance made him quit music

Popular Nigerian comedian, Klint Da Drunk, has revealed that he chose to switch his career focus from music to comedy after an encounter with legendary musician 2Face (now known as 2Baba) while they were both students.

In a recent interview with Naija FM Lagos, Klint Da Drunk explained that he was initially pursuing a career as a musician while studying at the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Enugu. However, he abandoned music after realizing it was not the right path for him.

The turning point

The comedian recalled the pivotal moment when he watched 2Face, who was also a student at IMT, perform at a campus event:

“I used to be a musician until 2Face got admitted to my school, IMT. One day when he got on stage to perform at an event on campus, I left the hall. The organisers pleaded with me to stay back and perform when he is done. I accepted but after hearing him sing just two lines, I went home. I didn’t know that my style and 2Face’s style were different. If I had known, I would continue making music. But thank God I didn’t continue. I like where I am.”

Background in music

Despite his decision to quit, Klint Da Drunk had an active background in the music scene:

  • He co-founded a music group with rapper Mr. Raw (then known as Dat N.I.G.G.A. Raw) before fully transitioning to comedy.

  • The group finished second in the Star Quest talent show in 2002, losing only to the duo KC Presh.

  • He later featured in the popular Nigerian hip-hop song, ‘Obodo’, by Mr. Raw.

The comedian concluded that he has no regrets about quitting music for comedy, affirming that he is happy with his current career path which has also led him to star in several Nollywood movies, including ‘Men On The Run’, ‘Madam 10/10’, and ‘Fast Cash’.
