ADC affirms Bello Keegan as Sokoto State Chairman

Move resolves internal leadership crisis, three senior officers suspended

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State has officially reaffirmed Alhaji Bello Keegan as the legitimate State Chairman of the party.

This decision was made following an emergency meeting of the State Executive Committee on December 10, 2025, aimed at resolving a protracted internal leadership dispute that had recently engulfed the party.

The reaffirmation of Keegan’s leadership, which was signed by 25 out of the 33 members of the state executive council, was framed as a necessary measure to restore order, maintain unity, and strengthen internal democracy within the ADC in Sokoto State.

Key actions taken by the Executive Committee:

  1. Reaffirmation of Leadership: Alhaji Bello Keegan was affirmed as the legitimate State Chairman, a move the committee stated reflects its commitment to protecting the party’s core values.

  2. Suspension of Senior Officers: The committee announced the suspension of three senior party officers, following findings that allegedly linked them to anti-party activities, breach of trust, and actions deemed capable of undermining the party’s integrity. The suspended officers are:

    • Yusuf Alkali (State Secretary)

    • Abba Galadima (Assistant State Financial Secretary, Central Zone)

    • Murtala Ali (State Publicity Secretary)

  3. Warning to Rival Claimant: The executive committee issued a stern warning to one Umar Mohammed, directing him to immediately cease parading himself as the chairman of the ADC in the state. The committee described his actions as “fraudulent, illegal and intended to mislead the public.”

The internal crisis was reportedly caused by rival factions making conflicting claims to the chairmanship, stemming from alleged parallel meetings and concerns about attempts to create a rival leadership structure. The emergency meeting was convened to clarify the leadership question, restore order, and prevent further fragmentation of the party in the state.
