White house confirms Trump diagnosed with benign vein condition amid health speculations
The White House has confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a long-term but benign vein condition, following weeks of public speculation about his health.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt revealed the diagnosis on Thursday, stating that the 79-year-old president had recently experienced “mild swelling in his lower legs.” She noted that discoloration on Trump’s right hand was the result of “frequent handshaking” and his use of aspirin as part of a standard cardiovascular prevention routine.
The announcement follows viral discussions online about the president’s visibly swollen ankles and bruised hand, which were particularly noticeable during the recent FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey.
Leavitt said Trump had instructed her to disclose the findings in a bid to promote transparency, sharing a note from his physician. She confirmed that the president had undergone a comprehensive examination and ultrasound testing, which led to the diagnosis.
“Chronic venous insufficiency is a benign and common condition, particularly in individuals over the age of 70,” Leavitt explained. The condition occurs when damaged leg veins are unable to maintain proper blood flow, often resulting in swelling or discoloration.
Trump, who began his second term in January at age 79, is the oldest person in U.S. history to assume the presidency. He replaced Democrat Joe Biden, who was 82 when he left office.
Despite recent concerns, Trump has consistently claimed to be in good health. In April, he declared himself in “very good shape” after a routine medical check-up. The administration has also promoted his fitness, including the release of an image portraying him as Superman.
