We’d have won if we had scored a second goal – Erik ten Hag
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has explained that his team’s failure to score a second goal was a key factor in their defeat to Manchester City in the Community Shield on Saturday.
United took the lead with a goal from Alejandro Garnacho in the 82nd minute. However, Bernardo Silva equalized for City just seven minutes later, sending the match to a penalty shootout, where Manchester City won 7-6.
“It’s a tough result to take. When you perform well and still lose, it’s a hard pill to swallow,” Ten Hag commented. “You have to feel that pain. We need to channel this hurt into our league games.”
He added, “We managed to score a second goal in the FA Cup final before halftime, but we couldn’t replicate that here.”
