Vitinha says PSG vs Bayern clash will prove who is best in Europe

Portuguese midfielder hails Bayern’s unbeaten run ahead of Champions League showdown

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha has described his team’s upcoming UEFA Champions League clash with Bayern Munich as a battle between “the two best teams in Europe,” adding that the encounter will serve as a true test of PSG’s credentials in their quest to retain the European title.

The French champions will welcome the German giants to the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night in what is shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated fixtures of the group stage. Both clubs are in excellent form, boasting strong domestic campaigns and impressive starts in Europe.

A clash of Europe’s heavyweights

PSG enter the tie sitting top of Ligue 1, unbeaten in their last six matches, and with three wins from three in the Champions League league phase. Under coach Luis Enrique, the Parisians have shown both flair and tactical discipline, maintaining their status as one of Europe’s most formidable sides.

Bayern Munich, however, come into the contest with an even more remarkable record — 15 consecutive wins across all competitions, a European record this season. The German side, led by manager Thomas Tuchel, sit just behind PSG in the continental standings and are yet to drop a point in Europe this term.

Speaking ahead of the match, Vitinha said that both teams deserve their place among Europe’s elite, but Tuesday’s clash would determine who currently holds the edge.

“We are the two best teams in Europe. Bayern are in fantastic form. We’re also doing well, continuing our momentum from last year,” the 25-year-old told journalists at Monday’s pre-match press conference.

“The answer will be given tomorrow. We have to talk on the pitch,” he added.

A dream match for players and fans

The Portuguese international acknowledged that facing Bayern Munich, who boast one of the most balanced squads in world football, is a challenge every player dreams of.

“When you’re a player, you want to play in this type of match because everyone wants to see it,” Vitinha said. “People will say, ‘this team is better because they won.’ It’s the kind of game where the best players show what they’re made of.”

With both teams stacked with world-class talent — from Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé for PSG to Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala for Bayern — the fixture has all the ingredients for a high-intensity European classic.

Luis Enrique calls for patience and perspective

While Vitinha was confident in PSG’s form, head coach Luis Enrique struck a more cautious tone during his own media briefing. The Spanish tactician, who guided the team to the Champions League title last season, said the real measure of Europe’s best team can only be determined at the end of the campaign.

“To find out who is the best team in Europe, we have to wait until the end of the season and see how many trophies each team wins,” Enrique told reporters. “Right now, it’s clear they (Bayern) are very strong. It’s incredible that they’ve won their last 15 matches. We already have trouble winning three or four matches in a row.”

Despite PSG’s relative inconsistency in domestic competition — with three draws and one loss from their opening 11 league games — Enrique urged fans to remain patient and have faith in the team’s ability to perform on the big stage.

“Do you think that I or the supporters should assess our team? I don’t think so — we deserve to have a little trust,” he said. “Tomorrow, at the Parc des Princes, with our supporters behind us, we have the confidence we need to overcome their pressing game.”

A test of mental strength and momentum

Both clubs have made no secret of their ambition to dominate Europe this season. For PSG, retaining their crown would mark a historic back-to-back triumph and solidify their reputation as a global powerhouse. For Bayern, who last lifted the trophy in 2020, the match represents a chance to make a statement of intent against the reigning champions.

Vitinha believes that mental strength and focus will decide the outcome. “At this level, every detail matters — one mistake, one moment of brilliance can change everything,” he said. “We must be united, disciplined, and play our game. That’s the only way to beat Bayern.”

As anticipation builds, football fans across the world are gearing up for what could be a defining moment in this year’s Champions League campaign — a contest between two European juggernauts, each determined to prove they are the continent’s best.
