UNILAG student narrates alleged sexual assault by lecturer

A 20-year-old student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has testified before a Lagos State High Court regarding an alleged assault by a lecturer. The undergraduate gave a detailed account of how Samuel Ojogbo, a 53-year-old staff member, reportedly attacked her in his office.
The Lagos State Government is currently prosecuting Ojogbo on a two-count charge involving alleged rape and sexual assault. The witness told the court that the incident occurred on August 22, 2025, during the examination period.
Victim describes office setting and alleged encounter
The student explained that the lecturer’s office was located in an underground section of the campus with no windows or secretaries present. She alleged that after two other students were sent away, the defendant forced her onto a couch and assaulted her.
According to her testimony, the lecturer later made promises regarding her future academic projects in an attempt to pacify her. She left the office in tears and immediately reported the matter to her family and university authorities.
Institutional response and police investigation
The witness claimed that her Head of Department initially questioned her story and advised her to let the matter go. However, her uncle insisted on a formal report, leading to an examination at the institution’s medical center.
The case eventually reached the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) before being transferred to the police. Justice Oyindamola Ogala has adjourned the matter until April 27, 2026, for the cross-examination of the witness.
