Tinubu visits family of Late Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, announces university renaming

President Bola Tinubu on Saturday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, in Bauchi State, describing his death as a “great national loss.”
During the visit, Tinubu highlighted the late cleric’s life as a model of humility, service, and dedication to society. He prayed for Allah’s mercy on the deceased and for his admission into Jannatul Firdaus, while also asking for strength for the family, the government, and the people of Bauchi State during this period of grief.
In recognition of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s contributions to education, the president announced that the Federal University of Medical Sciences Azare would be renamed in his honour. Tinubu also called on Nigerians to pray for peace, unity, and collective resilience, emphasising the importance of solidarity in challenging times.
Sheikh Ibrahim Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, the late cleric’s youngest son, expressed gratitude to the president for his visit and prayers, noting the support of Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Muhammad. Governor Muhammad, in turn, thanked Tinubu for honouring both the family and the state through his visit.
The visit is part of Tinubu’s broader engagements in northern Nigeria, which included the inauguration of key projects in Borno State earlier in the week, reflecting the president’s focus on education, infrastructure, and community development in the region.
