Tinubu commissions Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, unveils major road projects nationwide

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday, May 31, commissioned the first completed section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Superhighway, calling it a crucial artery for trade, tourism, and national integration.
The commissioning ceremony, held in Lagos, was part of events marking the second anniversary of President Tinubu’s administration. It also featured the inauguration of numerous completed infrastructure projects across the country, as well as the launch of several new ones under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Addressing attendees at the event, President Tinubu emphasized that his government does not see infrastructure as just “brick and mortar,” but as a strategic tool for driving sustainable economic growth, creating jobs, expanding opportunities, and fostering national unity.
In addition to the coastal highway, the president virtually commissioned other major road projects, including the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway (Shagamu–Ibadan section), which spans 166.8 kilometers, and the East-West Road from Eleme Junction to Ahoada, covering 94 kilometers.
Other key projects inaugurated include the 67.1-kilometer Alesi–Ugep Road in Cross River State, the 30.4-kilometer Ikorodu–Shagamu Road linking Lagos and Ogun States, and the Enugu–Lokpanta Expressway, with 16 kilometers of its 61-kilometer stretch completed.
Two new bridges were also officially opened: the dual-span 75-meter New Artisan Market Bridge in Enugu and a single-span 75-meter bridge at Akpoha in Ebonyi State.
Further developments included the commissioning of the first 15 kilometers of the Port Harcourt–Onne Junction segment of the East-West Road, the 48.6-kilometer Lagos–Badagry Expressway (Agbara–Seme Border section), an additional rehabilitated stretch of the Lagos–Badagry road, and a segment of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.
Reaffirming his administration’s focus on improving national connectivity, President Tinubu also flagged off construction on several new projects. These include the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesha–Akure–Benin Highway, the Nembe–Brass Road in the Niger Delta, the reconstruction of sections of the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, and the construction of the Abakpa Flyover in Enugu State.
