Tim Howard urges Chelsea to sign Liam Delap amid Manchester United interest

On Wednesday, May 7, former Manchester United goalkeeper Tim Howard suggested that Chelsea should make a move for Ipswich Town’s prolific striker Liam Delap ahead of the summer transfer window.

Delap, who has been one of the standout young forwards in the English Premier League this season, has caught the attention of multiple clubs, including Manchester United, who are also reportedly interested in securing his services.

The 22-year-old forward has been in fine form, scoring 12 goals in 32 league appearances for Ipswich Town under the guidance of Kieran McKenna this season.

Howard, speaking to NBC Sports, emphasized that Chelsea should target Delap to strengthen their forward line.

“I think Chelsea are desperate for a striker. The Manchester United pull, I think for a player like him, it’s still there,” Howard said.

“Whether that feels different because he was a City player… I like the [the Blues’] young team. He goes into a young team and there’s goals there.”

Delap, whose contract with Ipswich expires in June 2029, is likely to be one of the most sought-after young talents in the upcoming transfer window, with both Chelsea and Manchester United reportedly eyeing a move.
