Jamie Carragher showers praise on Lamine Yamal after Barcelona’s Champions League heartbreak

On Wednesday, May 7, following Barcelona’s dramatic Champions League semi-final exit at the hands of Inter Milan, Liverpool legend and pundit Jamie Carragher reserved special praise for Lamine Yamal, describing the teenager as an “absolute superstar.”
Carragher, speaking on CBS Sports, expressed deep admiration for the 16-year-old Spanish winger, who stood out despite Barcelona’s narrow defeat in extra time.
“It was that good, both ties, and that man there [Yamal] doesn’t deserve to be on the losing side. Nobody deserves to be on the losing side, but especially when you consider how young he was,” Carragher said.
“He was fantastic in both legs, and he was the man who almost won it for Barcelona late on in normal time and almost got Barcelona back into the game at the end of extra time.”
“The man is an absolute superstar, and the one tinge of sadness is that when we are in Munich [for the Champions League final], we won’t be watching Yamal.”
The thrilling second leg saw Inter Milan surge ahead 2-0 with goals from Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu. But Barcelona rallied, with Eric Garcia and Dani Olmo leveling the score before Raphinha put them ahead. Francesco Acerbi equalized for Inter, sending the match into extra time at 3-3.
Davide Frattesi then struck early in extra time to seal Inter’s place in the final, leaving Barcelona and Yamal with a painful exit—but not without admiration from the football world.
