Tems expresses gratitude to Seyi Sodimu for his role in Grammy-winning ‘Love Me Jeje’

R&B sensation Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, has publicly thanked veteran Nigerian artist Seyi Sodimu for granting her permission to sample his iconic 1997 track Love Me Jeje in her own Grammy-winning rendition of the same title.
Tems’ version of Love Me Jeje earned her the prestigious Best African Music Performance award at the 67th annual Grammy Awards, held on Sunday. The song triumphed over strong contenders, including Yemi Alade’s “Tomorrow,” Asake & Wizkid’s “MMS,” Chris Brown featuring Davido & Lojay’s “Sensational,” and Burna Boy’s “Higher.”
In a heartfelt post shared on her X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, Tems took a moment to express her gratitude to Sodimu for his collaboration and support in clearing the sample. She described his original Love Me Jeje as a “timeless classic,” noting her excitement about how the song is being appreciated anew thanks to her remix.
“I just want to thank the wonderful @seyimusic for his role in the support and clearing of his OG song Love Me Jeje. It’s brought the original song back to life for me, and I’m glad that it’s getting its flowers today. A timeless classic. I appreciate you so much. Thank you for your love and support,” Tems wrote.
Tems’ recognition of Sodimu highlights the importance of collaboration and respect for musical legacies, and her acknowledgment adds to the growing celebration of Nigerian music on the global stage.
