SSS forcefully obtain social media logins of TikToker imprisoned over Tinubu’s false death — Lawyer

A lawyer and rights activist, Hamza Dantani, has raised an alarm over alleged forceful obtaining of social media and email logins of a TikToker, Ghali Ismail, who is currently in Keffi prison custody.

Reports that a chief magistrate court sitting in Abuja had on Friday ordered the remand of the TikToker at the Keffi Correctional Centre over a viral video claiming that President Bola Tinubu had died.

Mr Isma’il, also known as Sultan, was arrested by operatives of the State Security Service, SSS, following circulation of the video through a TikTok handle, @bola_asiwaju.

In the video, he claimed that Mr Tinubu had died of complications after he was allegedly poisoned.

He was subsequently arraigned by the SSS on a two-count charge bordering on the publication of fake news and incitement against the government.

The imprisonment has attracted severe backlash on the federal government.

However, in a Facebook post on Wednesday, Mr Dantani said they are not aware of the reason behind the SSS action.

“Last night, officials of the State Security Service (SSS) went to Keffi prison and forced Sultan to hand over the password and login details of his phones, iCloud, and email address to them.

“At the moment, we don’t know their intention for this forceful invasion of his privacy.

“But these acts are unprofessional, unacceptable, and breach the Nigerian Constitution.

“By his arraignment in court, it is assumed that the SSS have concluded their investigation and that is why they charged him to court.

“Also, in the eyes of the law, the SSS does not have any cause to visit him in prison for any reason except the court order. And his lawyers must be put on notice before such can happen.

“We have drawn the attention of the SSS to this unprofessional and disturbing act, and I will also follow up with a petition.

“We are appealing to the general public to kindly share this widely until it reaches the SSS so that they don’t perpetuate any clandestine act and link it to Sultan.

“Since we got this information, all of us have been seriously concerned about the motives of the SSS.”
