Sowore rejects invitation to opposition summit

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in 2023, has rejected an invitation to the National Opposition Summit in Ibadan. He described the gathering as a desperate attempt by entrenched political figures to rebrand themselves.

Opposition leaders had converged on Oyo State to discuss presenting a single candidate for the 2027 general election. The coalition includes the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Nigerians deserve genuine alternative says Sowore

Reacting on his X handle, Sowore stated that he deliberately stayed away to avoid validating what he calls “recycled failure.” He argued that politicians who presided over years of systemic decay cannot suddenly become champions of progress.

The Sahara Reporters publisher added that the AAC would not participate in a political charade. He believes the same actors who contributed to Nigeria’s stagnation are now claiming to be defenders of the people.

AAC seeks a decisive break from old structures

Sowore maintained that the AAC remains committed to building a people-driven alternative rooted in genuine transformation. He stated that Nigeria’s challenges require a decisive break from existing political structures.

He vowed to mobilise Nigerians across the country to support a credible vision that rejects both the ruling and opportunistic opposition parties. According to him, the summit was merely a rearrangement of the same political actors.
