South-South leaders rally behind Tinubu, demand full 8-year term for South

On Thursday, May 1, Udeme Otong, the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, called on Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu for a second term, arguing that the South deserves to hold power for eight years—just like the North previously did.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Otong praised Tinubu’s performance so far, saying he has empowered state governors by ensuring they receive enough funds to run their states without needing to borrow.
“The Northerners have got their eight years, so the South must also have theirs. But Tinubu is doing very well,” Otong said.
“There’s no time the governor has brought any loan facility request for us to approve for him. That means the President is doing very well… and that’s why you see peace everywhere.”
This statement echoes recent remarks by Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, who also publicly supported Tinubu, predicting the president will remain in office until 2031.
Interestingly, Eno, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also hinted that he may leave the opposition party, saying it no longer aligns with his political goals.
Otong’s comments signal growing cross-party support for Tinubu in the South, as political figures emphasize regional balance and perceived economic stability under his leadership.
