Comedian Bovi opens up on breaking family cycle of negativity

Popular Nigerian comedian Bovi has opened up about his difficult relationship with his late father, revealing that negativity was a recurring pattern in his family — one he chose to end.

Speaking during the first-ever live edition of the ‘WithChude’ podcast, Bovi shared emotional reflections about his father’s death in February 2025, and how their relationship evolved over time.

My father gave me what he had, and what he had was a lot of negative energy. That was given to him as well. I have chosen to be the stop,” Bovi said.

He likened the tension between them to what many would describe as a “generational curse”, and said it once left him speaking from a bitter and loveless place.

However, Bovi explained that he eventually forgave his father and took care of him with love during his long illness, which began in 2021.

Long before he passed, I had already forgiven him… I didn’t struggle to take care of him,” he said.

The comedian’s candid story touched on themes of healing, forgiveness, and breaking toxic family patterns, sparking conversation online about emotional resilience and personal growth.
