Sokoto PDP inaugurates committee ahead of national convention

State chapter moves to gear up for pivotal party gathering
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has inaugurated a special committee to coordinate the state’s participation in its forthcoming national convention, scheduled for November 15-16, 2025.
The ceremony, held on Tuesday in Sokoto, was presided over by the State Chairman, Muhammadu Bello Aliyu Goronyo, who urged members to uphold party unity, discipline and readiness ahead of the national event.
Key appointments and mandate of the committee
According to the statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Hassan Sahabi Sanyinnawal, the committee is chaired by the State Organising Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Chika Shuni, while the Assistant State Secretary, Alhaji Mustapha Lanas Gidadawa, will serve as secretary.
Other members include the Minority Leader of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Magaji; the State Legal Adviser, Barr. Abdulrahman Abubakar; State Auditor, Alhaji Nasiru Shehu Kware; Publicity Secretary Hassan Sahabi Sanyinnawal; Chairman of the Local Government Chairmen Forum, Alhaji Bello Mai Karfi; and the PDP North-West Zonal Youth Leader, Atiku Muhammad Yabo.
The committee is charged with ensuring the smooth coordination and effective participation of Sokoto’s delegates at the national convention. It also has the responsibility to safeguard the state chapter’s interests, strengthen internal democracy within the state party structure, and position the party strongly ahead of forthcoming national and electoral assignments.
Uniting the ranks: emphasis on discipline and participation
Goronyo in his address stressed that the success of the convention will depend on unity of action and the collective commitment of party members across the state. He said the committee must protect and advance the interest of the PDP in Sokoto, and ensure that the delegates’ credentials, logistics and mandate are free from internal disputes.
Sanyinnawal described the formation of the committee as “a reflection of the PDP’s steadfast commitment to internal democracy and credible leadership selection,” adding that the chapter remains united and ready for the national event. He called on all party members to rally behind the initiative and support the committee’s efforts for a hitch-free outing.
Significance ahead of the national convention
The national convention of the PDP is set to be a crucial milestone — not just for the immediate selection of national officers, but as a platform for repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 elections. State chapters like Sokoto’s are under pressure to demonstrate organisational capacity, delegate discipline and functional internal handing of affairs.
Observers note that the timely inauguration of the committee in Sokoto signals the state chapter’s desire to avoid delegate mismanagement, factionalism or last-minute disputes that have previously weakened party outings in other states.
What’s next for Sokoto PDP?
With less than a week to the national convention date, the Sokoto chapter will now focus on verifying the list of delegates, training or briefing the committee members and securing logistics for travel, accommodation and accreditation. The committee will also likely interface with national party structures to align state strategy with national goals.
Party members in Sokoto are encouraged to stay engaged, avoid distraction or internal politicking, and ensure that the chapter’s contribution to the convention is credible and meaningful.
If the state chapter successfully delivers its mandate, it may provide a model for how internal party mechanics should work ahead of critical national events.
