Simi urges fans to stop calling her daughter ‘Duduke’

Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has appealed to the public to stop referring to her daughter, Adejare, as “Duduke.”
The nickname stems from Simi’s 2020 hit single Duduke, which she released while pregnant with her first child. Following the song’s success and the birth of her daughter with fellow singer Adekunle Gold in June 2020, fans affectionately began calling the child “Duduke.”
However, in a recent chat with VJ Adams, Simi clarified that she’s not comfortable with the nickname, explaining that Duduke doesn’t hold any real meaning—it was simply used in the song to mimic the sound of a heartbeat.
“People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t even mean anything. Had it meant something good, I would have allowed it. But it’s just a beat—duduke, duduke. That was what I meant. My heart beats like a drum,” she said.
Simi added, “Stop calling my child Duduke [laughs]. But you know what? I get it, it’s coming from a good place, so I try not to react.”
Despite her light-hearted tone, the singer made it clear that she prefers people to refer to her daughter by her actual name, Adejare.
