Reekado Banks admits leaving Mavin Records was premature

From Mavin rookie to independent artist

Nigerian singer Reekado Banks has opened up about leaving Mavin Records earlier than he should have. The label was where he first gained fame, winning Rookie of the Year at The Headies 2014 and snagging the controversial Next Rated award in 2015.

Why he left and what he realized later

Banks left Mavin in 2018 to start his own label, Banks Music. In a recent chat with reality star Teddy A on Echoo Room, he revealed that leaving wasn’t due to any fallout but a personal decision after his contract ended.

“I was pretty young and fixated on what I wanted to do — I wanted to leave,” he explained. “My contract actually ended two years before I left, but I just allowed it to ride on.”

He added, “I thought I could do it on my own then. But once I jumped in, I realized it was premature.”

What’s next for Reekado Banks?

The singer’s honesty sheds light on the challenges of going independent too soon in the music industry — a risk many artists face. Fans are now watching closely to see how Banks continues to evolve his career on his own terms.
