Real Madrid, Manchester City share spoils in six-goal thriller
Real Madrid could not separate themselves from UEFA Champions League holders Manchester City as the teams drew 3-3 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid started many of their stars, including Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, Toni Kroos, Rodrygo Goes, Antonio Rudiger, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga.
Man City also started many familiar faces, including Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Ruben Dias, John Stones, Bernardo Silva, and Jack Grealish. Pep Guardiola’s starting lineup was missing key players like Kevin De Bruyne and Ederson Moraes, who were on the bench.
Man City opened the scoring through a Bernardo Silva goal in the 2nd minute, but Real Madrid responded in the 12th minute, albeit needing an own goal from Ruben Dias to tie the game at 1-1.
Rodrygo, however, put the home team ahead after scoring in the 14th minute. Man City had to wait till the 66th minute to find the equalizer through a Foden goal, then took the lead in the 71st minute through a goal from centerback Josko Gvardiol.
Madrid did not give up though, as they found another equalizer in the 79th minute through Federico Valverde.
This draw means that Man City has come out of the difficult part of this tie without losing, and would be hoping to have the advantage when Madrid comes to the Etihad for the second leg next week.
