PSG push to extend Kvaratskhelia’s contract before Ballon d’Or announcement

Paris Saint-Germain want to extend Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s contract before the Ballon d’Or is announced, according to L’Équipe, in order to avoid harder talks if he wins the award.
Negotiations between the winger’s camp and the Ligue 1 champions have been under way for several weeks and are said to be going well, with an agreement considered likely soon. The new deal would run until 2030 or 2031 and include a pay rise. Kvaratskhelia won Ligue 1 and the Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain last season and is among the leading names for the prize due next month.
Timing is the point of the story. An individual award changes a player’s leverage. If Kvaratskhelia lifts the Ballon d’Or, his representatives can argue that last season’s club titles plus the trophy justify a larger package—or a longer look at other suitors.
By trying to close now, PSG are attempting to lock in years and wages while the honour is still only a shortlist. That is standard business at a club that has lost stars after peak seasons before.
An extension to 2030 or 2031 would keep him in Paris through his mid-to-late twenties, the years clubs most want to control. A salary increase is the price of that control. Nothing in the report says the deal is signed; it says talks are positive.
Until the contract is announced, the Ballon d’Or night in October remains a deadline of a different kind: either PSG have their signature, or they walk into the ceremony still negotiating with a player whose market price may have just jumped.
