Prosecutors seek over a decade in prison for Diddy over prostitution conviction

Prosecutors on Friday urged a federal judge in New York to sentence music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs to more than 10 years in prison for his conviction on two prostitution-related counts, arguing that the 55-year-old hip-hop icon had failed to show genuine remorse.
“This is not a person who has accepted responsibility,” prosecutor Christy Slavik told the court, calling for an 11-year sentence. She accused Combs of believing “the law doesn’t apply to him,” describing his public behavior as “the height of hubris.”
Combs’s attorneys, however, requested a 14-month sentence, which would amount to time served. They argued that the hip-hop entrepreneur, who once stood trial on more serious charges, has already endured significant consequences.
Judge Arun Subramanian noted that federal sentencing guidelines recommend between six and seven years but emphasized he had discretion to impose a higher or lower term. He also remarked on Combs’s lack of remorse, saying the defendant had “challenged his factual guilt full-throatedly.”
The sentencing comes after a two-month trial in which jurors acquitted Combs of the most serious charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering, sparing him a potential life sentence.
Combs submitted a letter to the judge on Thursday pleading for leniency, writing that he had “lost my way.” He was also expected to address the court directly.
Family support was evident in the courtroom, with Combs’s mother and six children present, alongside letters they submitted on his behalf.
