The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of a 60-year-old headmaster, Mr Matthew Owoade, in Igbojaye, Itesiwaju Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident in a text message to journalists on Monday.
According to the police, Owoade, the headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Ogodu, Igbojaye, was kidnapped at about 6:00 p.m. on Saturday while returning from his farm in Budo Aare.
Ayanlade said security operatives have launched efforts to rescue the victim and arrest those responsible for the abduction.
The victim’s son, Abiola Owoade, said the gunmen intercepted his father and took him to an unknown location.
He added that the kidnappers have since contacted the family and are demanding a ransom of N30 million for the headmaster’s release.
The police assured residents that investigations are ongoing and urged members of the public to provide useful information that could aid efforts to rescue the victim.
