Police arrest 113 foreign nationals in cybercrime crackdown

On Monday, December 2, 2024, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) announced the successful arrest of 113 foreign nationals involved in cybercrime activities. The arrests were made during a major operation by officers from Zone 7 Command and the National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) in Abuja.

According to the police spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the operation, which took place on November 3, 2024, targeted a cybercrime syndicate operating in Jahi, Abuja. During the operation, authorities uncovered significant evidence related to internet fraud, marketing scams, and other cybercrimes.

Items recovered during the raid included a Toyota Tundra vehicle, multiple laptops, smartphones, tablets, high-capacity servers, routers, drones, specialized cyber equipment, game consoles, identity cards, passports, travel documents, and communication devices.

The police statement explained that, following a thorough investigation and the collection of credible evidence, the 113 suspects were arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja. They are facing serious charges, including computer-related fraud, unlawful access to data, marketing scams, money laundering, conspiracy, and illegal immigration.

The NPF-NCCC emphasized that the investigation revealed the suspects’ involvement in not only cybercrime but also human trafficking networks and immigration offenses.

The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to working with international law enforcement agencies and embassies to track down cybercriminals, combat cybercrime, and ensure justice is served under Nigerian law.
