PMAN FCT chapter orders event planners to seek permission for live bands

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has directed hotel owners, event planners, and other entertainment stakeholders in Abuja to seek the association’s approval before engaging live music bands, warning that failure to comply may attract sanctions.
Michael Oyibo Kaycee, PMAN’s acting governor in the FCT, made the announcement during a press conference in Abuja on Friday. He stressed that stakeholders must hire certified musicians and adhere to industrial standards, emphasizing that exploitation, disrespect, or underpayment of musicians would no longer be tolerated.
“You are required to obey industrial standards, engage certified musicians, and fulfil your obligations. Our task force is fully operational from today. The system has been taken for granted for too long,” Kaycee said.
He also highlighted the decline in traditional television viewership, noting that digital platforms have become the primary medium for content distribution. “Today, virtually everyone carries a television in their hands. A young boy in a remote area can gain global recognition simply through digital influence,” he said.
Kaycee further urged the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to intervene in support of the association and its members.
This move comes as PMAN seeks to strengthen the protection of musicians’ rights and ensure compliance with industry standards in the nation’s capital.
