Partey urges Saliba’s replacement to rise to the occasion
Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has called on the player set to replace William Saliba in the Gunners’ starting lineup to step up ahead of their upcoming Premier League match against Liverpool.
Saliba will be unavailable for the clash after receiving a red card during Arsenal’s recent 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth. The French defender was sent off following a VAR review, which upgraded his initial yellow card after he fouled Evanilson.
“He’s a massive player who we are going to miss, and somebody has to step up,” Partey said, as reported by Metro. “We have good defenders, and the coach knows what he is going to do to help the team. Any player who is there has to step in and try to give their best.”
Arsenal will first face Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday before turning their focus to the high-stakes match against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium next Sunday.
