Oyinlola criticises Tinubu administration, says Nigerians facing ‘renewed agony’

Former Osun State governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has said that instead of the “Renewed Hope” promised during the 2023 presidential campaign, Nigerians are currently enduring what he described as a period of “renewed agony” under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Oyinlola made the remarks on Tuesday while speaking on Frontline, a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese Ijebu. The interview was monitored by DAILY POST in Abeokuta.

A retired Nigerian Army general, Oyinlola served as Osun State governor from May 2003 to November 2010. He expressed deep concern about the direction of the country, accusing the Tinubu-led government of failing to deliver on its campaign promises.

“When he was campaigning, he promised a Renewed Hope. What we are seeing now is nothing short of bad governance. The economy is in terrible shape, and it’s affecting every Nigerian,” he said.

His comments come amid growing hardship in the country, despite claims of reforms by the federal government.

Reacting to the recent endorsement of Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and the state’s PDP leadership, Oyinlola clarified that while he was not opposed to the move, it was purely a strategic political decision—not an expression of trust or ideological support.

He cited rising poverty, worsening insecurity, and a deteriorating quality of life as signs of a failing administration.

“We have a very bad economy, bad security, and hard-biting poverty. The common man cannot afford basic medication. We are also plagued by religious tension, war, banditry, terrorism, and insurgency. What we have is renewed agony, not renewed hope,” he said.
