Osun governor reduces working hours for public servants during Ramadan and Lent

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved a reduction in working hours for public servants during the ongoing Ramadan and Lent fasting periods.
The directive, announced by the governor’s spokesperson Olawale Rasheed on Thursday in Osogbo, is aimed at supporting state employees observing the religious fasts.
According to the statement, the adjusted timetable will take effect from Thursday, February 19, 2026, and remain in force throughout the fasting season. A circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service, signed by Elder Ayanleye Ain, titled “Closure of Work During Ramadan and Lent Fasting Periods,” outlined the revised closing times. Public servants are to end work at 2:00 pm from Mondays to Thursdays and 1:00 pm on Fridays.
The circular noted that the measure is part of the government’s welfare initiatives, allowing workers adequate time for prayers and spiritual activities during the fasting periods. Workers engaged in essential services, particularly medical personnel, are exempted due to the critical nature of their duties.
Political office holders, accounting officers of ministries, departments, and agencies, heads of non-ministerial agencies, as well as local government authorities, were directed to comply fully and ensure the directive is communicated to all staff.
