NNPCL raises petrol price to ₦945 in Abuja and nearby states

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has again increased the pump price of petrol, pushing it to ₦945 per litre at its retail stations in Abuja, Nassarawa, and Kogi. This marks the second hike in less than a week.

The price adjustment took effect on Friday morning, according to Abubakar Maigandi, National Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), who confirmed the change but said the reason was unclear.

A week of fuel price swings
On Monday, August 4, NNPCL stations were selling petrol at ₦955 per litre before dropping to ₦900 on Wednesday. Now, just two days later, the price has climbed again to ₦945.

The price shifts follow Dangote Refinery’s move to raise its ex-depot price — the rate marketers pay before retail — from ₦820 to ₦850 per litre.

How other stations compare
While NNPCL is now at ₦945, other filling stations in Abuja are selling at varying rates:

  • MRS – ₦885 per litre

  • Bova – ₦895 per litre

  • Optima, Ranoil, AA Rano, NIPCO – ₦950 to ₦955 per litre

Rising costs, rising concerns
The constant price changes in less than a week are fuelling uncertainty among motorists and sparking renewed concerns about affordability, especially with the ripple effect on transport and commodity prices.
